This residence, located in a historic neighborhood, underwent a major transformation aimed at bringing light, fluidity, and modernity to previously compartmentalized spaces. At the heart of the project: the complete opening of the kitchen to the dining and living areas. This intervention created generous sightlines, highlighting the restored original woodwork, classic patterned flooring, and a carefully curated selection of furniture. The matte black island, both minimal and functional, now anchors the space while opening it to daily life.
Large wood-framed glass doors provide a direct connection to the outdoors, allowing natural light to flow freely throughout the main floor. Complementing this, a sunken English courtyard was added at the basement level to turn a formerly dark space into a fully livable floor. This simple yet meaningful architectural gesture brings in natural light, creates vertical breathing room, and establishes a physical link to the exterior.
The renovation celebrates material quality and refined detailing while honoring the home’s original character. The project reflects our approach: to reveal the full potential of a space through architecture that is understated, coherent, and enduring.
